Volunteer Missionary Network.
The volunteer missionary network (the People pillar) functions through Intentional Accompaniment.
This means to intentionally walk alongside others on their journey of conversion. In this we seek the Lord’s prompting and remain alongside the other, after conversion, as they begin the lifelong journey of missionary discipleship.
The volunteer missionary network connects the Archbishop to those who do not know Jesus, or do not know him well enough, through a ‘bond of connections’ - the Agency, Deanery Mentors, Parish Leads and volunteers.
The goal of Some Definite Service is to help develop and sustain an evangelising and missionary archdiocese. To do this we need to have people who, through conversion, are living a life of ongoing conversion as missionary disciples in our parishes.
For this reason, the volunteer missionary network is sustained through intentional accompaniment. Intentional accompaniment always focuses on one person at a time. This focus is guided by the following three principles: direction (a sense of movement to initial conversion or from it to holiness and missionary endeavours), docility (to the Holy Spirit) and detachment (avoiding partiality when offering support).
Single events for training and formation can often be excellent but fail to provide ongoing advice and direction. In an organic manner, the conversations within the network also provide opportunities for faith formation and personal growth.
