The Structure of Some Definite Service

Some Definite Service is an approach that appreciates that the main place where Evangelisation, Catechesis and Formation take place is the parish. It recognises too that individual parishes benefit from connection to each other, just as people benefit from ongoing relationships with others and, supremely, with Jesus.

There are three pillars to Some Definite Service:

People – the volunteer missionary network;

Plans – tailored parish plans;

Prayer – the underpinning of all our endeavours and the source of our vision.

Each of these pillars is interrelated and works in relationship with the others. The network encourages missionary discipleship and supports initiatives detailed in plans. Prayer informs the plans’ construction and each meeting of members of the volunteer missionary network. In essence, each parish is asked to develop a plan in the three interconnected areas of Evangelisation, Catechesis and Formation. Each person is invited to find a way in which they might grow in both holiness and an understanding of their part in the Church’s mission, how they might contribute.
